Let me guess, you have just completed your ump-teenth Sunday with less than desired sound quality. Little old ladies covered their ears as they ran screaming from the building and looks of seething rage were directed at a frustrated sound engineer. The bass player looked down to notice a bright blue light glowing from the inside of his moniter. He gives a worried look to the worship leader and says, “uh, is this a problem?”
Anybody who has ever served on a worship or tech arts team at a local church has experienced the absolute madness of caressing an old or failed sound system. Many of us have also been to some of the larger churches and drooled over the state of the art equipment and sound quality only to become even more disheartened when discovering how much these type of systems can cost which put them out of reach to the smaller developing church.
This has been an area of passion for me for almost 20 years. I have advised and been contracted by many churches to take what they have that is useful (and PLEASE throw away, sell or donate the rest.) and develop a realistic plan to achieve a production level that you might expect to find at a larger venue at a fraction of the cost. Many local music dealers are very quick to offer advice. They can even suggest some low cost options. Unfortunately, since many of these professionals don’t have a real working knowledge of the dynamics surrounding the needs of worship ministry, they inadvertently provide inferior advice that comes at a great price.
In this series of blogs I am going to go down the list from top to bottom to offer the experience and information I have collected over the years and share it with you. It is my sincere hope that this information will be useful to you and your church. Feel free to send your feedback by replying to my posts. Also I do continue to offer consulting support to churches that desire some hands on support. Please see my packages page for more info on the kinds of services I can provide for you and your church.
